Time person of the Year

Time magazine are inviting people to vote for their person of the year.

The shortlist is:

Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Hu Jintao, Steve Jobs, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Barack Obama, General Petraeus, Vladimir Putin, Condoleezza Rice and JK Rowling

Yea, I know what your thinking. Who on earth devised the the list?

Says Time:
"Now it's your turn to tell us who is really the most important person of 2007. Should it be a Nobel Prize winning former Vice President or quite possibly the future first woman President? Is the rabble-rousing President of Iran a more deserving choice, or what about the man behind the iPhone? Vote for your choice, though the editors reserve the right to disagree".

For mine it ought be General David Howell Petraeus!

As the Spectator put it: "At the beginning of this year, Iraq looked like a lost cause but now thanks to his strategy there are real grounds for optimism. When you think of the consequences of failure—an emboldened Iran, a weakened America, a base for terrorists in the heart of the Middle East, the real risk of a region-wide sectarian war—you realise what a difference Petraeus has made".

Cast your vote/rating here.

This list is hilarious - Four liberals, three communists, one businessman, one conservative, and one military officer.

Whether you agree with policies or not, President Bush should be on this list. He has remained steadfast in the face of several years of negative numbers and decreasing polls. He remains focused on the threats to our country.

General Petraeus is a good choice. His vision and professionalsim are the epitome of leadership.

One could make the case that Ahmadinejad should be the choice. His country and his policies have driven the actions in Iraq as well as the actions of diplomacy in the region. He has elevated Iran over Iraq as the news of the day.

I think the person of the year should be each and every member of our armed forces. They go about their daily activities and sacrifices without commentary. Heroes all.

Time usually sends me an email about this, I almost missed it. It's a very sad and pathetic joke each year. Terrorists and America haters are always top of the list.

Thanks for sharing.

Time never dissappoints me. What a loser list, except for General Petraeus and he is the one deserving of the title. We are a nation at war whether the left wants to acknowledge that fact or not. Petraeus is there doing what he said he would do.

Case closed.

General Petraeus looks good to me. I could not believe the others in the catagory. Each one I looked at seemed to get worse!

With a list like this there is only one that is anywhere near credible and thats General Petraeus. He is honest, so he probably won't make it. Look at honesty, integrety, love of country and mankind and who do you come up with...Only one.......stay well....

General Petraeus is the man. He has made 2007 the Annus Mirabilis for President Bush, as I predicted ten months ago in an article of mine.

This list is pathetic. I of course voted for General Petraeus. It's mind boggling that the President of the US was not on this list!

Thanks to all. It seems the General sits well with our points of view and, of course he should!

And in relation to kotzabasis comment, I present an excerpt from his april 10 post:

"This new strategy of staying the course - but with the commanders on the ground having all the appropriate means of war at their disposal to be used remorselessly against the insurgents - has a great chance of being successful. And unlike all the pessimistic pundits who have “cashiered” victory in Iraq—but pessimists cannot win wars that is the vocation of optimists—2007 could be the Annus Mirabilis for President Bush, if he has the mettle and sagacity to adopt the above strategy that could indeed be the blueprint for victory".

Unbelievable!!... other than Petraeus and Rice. Love the editors reserve the right to disagree caveat.

Gore and Clinton are bad enough but Ahmadinejad, or Putin, or Jintao??? Maybe as the most unsavory person of the year.

I can almost remember when Time was a publication worth reading - this list is disgraceful - except for General Petraeus.

I agree with Debbie: It's usually a pathetic pick. I think Petraeus as Person of the Year would be awesome. He certainly deserves it, without doubt.

Interesting post, Ottavio!

Tha fact that Patraeus is on the lsit with some of the nominees is an insult to him!

J.K. Rowling is in the lead!!!! With Obama second. What have either of them done. She wrote a book and he ....what does he do ?

Amadinijad does not even belong on earth mush less on the list and the Hildabeast....well we know what she is. Steve Jobs ???? Get real making a phone that he ripped people off with on the original price then when sales lagged dropped the price to better line his packets...yeah real worthy!

Condi yes she is working her booty off trying to keep everyone from killing everyone else and of course Patreaus absolutly and he gets my vote.

I must agree with the others that this list is a far cry from candidates for Person of the Year. But then again, werent we ALL Persons of the Year last year? Stupid. First Gore gets a Nobel Peace Prize and now this.

I would have to say that President Bush should be on, and win, this list. He has been the one that has led our country through this difficult time. He has stuck by his military generals and stayed in the fight when the world seemed to scream, "Leave!" He has stuck with this war and no backed down and now we are seeing success.

Of course, General Petraeus is a worthy candidate as well. But I shudder to think of and even consider the others.
